North Carolina has not elected a Republican Attorney General in over 125 years. “It’s time to change that.”

Waxhaw, NC - Conservative Congressman Dan Bishop announced Thursday he is running for Attorney General, to defend the rule of law and protect North Carolinians’ freedoms.

North Carolina last elected a Republican Attorney General – Zeb Walser in 1896 – over 125 years ago.

“It really is quite simple: North Carolinians are tired of tired of feckless Attorneys General who pick and choose which laws they enforce and substitute their personal opinions for the substance of our constitution,” Bishop said. “As the state’s chief law enforcement officer, I will be a tireless backer of our state’s prosecutors and law enforcement officers. I will prioritize protecting the public and keeping criminals behind bars. And I will relentlessly protect the God-given freedoms and rights granted to you in our constitution.”

Dan’s first public appearance as a candidate for Attorney General will be a press availability following his speech to the Republican Women of Greater Charlotte on Wednesday, Aug. 9, at Maggiano’s in Southpark. Press will be admitted at 1:15 p.m.

Dan has been one of the toughest and most outspoken conservatives in Congress. As a member of the judiciary committee and the subcommittee on the weaponization of the federal government, he has taken on powerful interests that threaten our constitutional rights and refused to back down. Dan has exposed dangerous Biden administration policies that trample our freedoms, confronted the federal government’s abuses against the Trump presidency and its supporters, and held his fellow Republicans accountable to conservative principles.

In his legal practice, Dan was a tenacious litigator, handling complex commercial cases. It earned him 10 elections to Business NC’s “Legal Elite.”

Dan was born and raised in North Carolina. He comes from a large family of 5 children. His parents, Kaytee and Bud, came from modest backgrounds, but pushed all their children to strive for educational success and a strong work ethic.

Dan has been happily married to his wife Jo, a partner in everything he does, for 25 years. They are blessed to be the parents of their son, Jack, who is currently pursuing a law degree.
