Lazzara's student search policy passes as part of state budget
RALEIGH, N.C. — The State Budget (HB 259), as ratified by the General Assembly on Thursday, included a key provision aimed to protect the safety of students in North Carolina schools.
“Every student in North Carolina should feel safe in their learning environment,” said Lazzara, “This common-sense provision ensures that when searches of a student’s person are required, they are conducted in a safe, secure, and appropriate manner by a school official of the same sex.”
The included text comes directly from Senate Bill 90, which was originally filed and sponsored by Senator Michael Lazzara (R – Onslow).
House Bill 259 (as ratified to include the text of Senate Bill 90) has been ratified by the General Assembly and now awaits further consideration by the Governor.
