Washington, D.C. – Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. today opened an online portal that farmers and constituents from across North Carolina’s Third Congressional District can use to directly share their priorities for this year’s Farm Bill reauthorization.

“America’s agricultural system serves as the cornerstone of the country. It feeds hundreds of millions of Americans everyday while also stocking shelves around the globe,” said Rep. Murphy. “As Congress works to draft this year’s Farm Bill, I would like to invite Eastern North Carolina farmers and constituents to share their priorities through an online portal. As the proud representative of a district that’s home to everything from hogs, to corn, and to cotton, I am committed to bringing Eastern North Carolina’s voice to Washington.”

BACKGROUND:

Congress is in the midst of drafting and reauthorizing the Farm Bill, a package passed every five years to support a strong agricultural sector. It covers a wide range of programs, including crop insurance, commodity programs, conservation, and nutrition.

Agriculture is North Carolina’s number one industry. According to data from N.C. State, farming, forestry, and fiber generated more than $90 billion in 2019.

North Carolina’s Third District is the second largest hog producing Congressional district and has over 1.3 million planted acres of crops.
