Murphy Vote on Expulsion of Santos

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. issued the following statement after voting against the motion to expel Rep. George Santos (NY-03) from Congress:

"I do not believe the actions of Representative George Santos are befitting of the U.S. House of Representatives," said Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. "Expelling a member of Congress is an action of great consequence. Much higher than the censure of a member. The Ethics Committee is still investigating the allegations levied against him. The committee made clear, in a bipartisan statement, the wide scope of its investigation and its intent on announcing the next course of action in this matter on or before November 17th. Their decision will be a deciding factor."

"I believe matters before the Ethics Committee must be evaluated through a nonpartisan lens, and I do not wish to interfere in the work they have undertaken. Representative Santos has brought great shame upon himself, his constituents, the Congress, and our great nation. I look forward to the Ethics Committee releasing its findings."
