NRCC Chairman Hudson Statement on the Fiscal Responsibility Act
(Washington) - NRCC Chairman Richard Hudson (R-NC) released the following statement on passage of the Fiscal Responsibility Act:
"House Republicans are changing the way Washington operates for the better. The Fiscal Responsibility Act will cut spending and reduce the deficit, end uncontrollable executive spending by enforcing 'Pay-Go' rules, restart student loan repayments that will save taxpayers $5 billion per month, and take back tens of billions of COVID funding.
The bill will jumpstart our economy with work requirements for able-bodied childless adults and speed up critical construction projects. All this is done while ensuring full funding for our seniors, veterans, and national defense.
Extreme Democrats fought tooth and nail to avoid cutting even one single dollar, demanding to keep our nation's runaway spending train careening down the tracks. These extreme Democrats are addicted to spending our money, but Republicans are united in our desire to stop them from destroying our country with crushing debt.
I believe we can always find more waste to cut, but forcing a Democratic President to cut spending is historic and unprecedented. There was not a single Democratic priority in this bill, but there are trillions of reasons for Republicans to celebrate: represented by the $2.1 trillion in savings won through hard-fought negotiations. We should take the real conservative policy wins in this bill today and come back tomorrow to fight for more."
