Washington, D.C. — U.S. Representatives Deborah Ross (NC-02), Valerie Foushee (NC-04), and Wiley Nickel (NC-13) announced $12 million in federal funding awarded to the Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) under the FY 2024 Airport Terminal Program, which was created by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. This award will fund a portion of the Terminal 2 security checkpoint, baggage claim, and Federal Inspection Station expansion. Last Congress, Congresswoman Ross worked to pass the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, historic legislation that has already delivered $43.6 million to RDU as of November 2023.

In 2023, RDU served a record 14.5 million passengers and is projected to exceed that number in the upcoming year. By making critical improvements to security checkpoints and baggage claims, the funding will help accommodate the growing number of travelers at the airport and enhance the passenger experience by making it easier and faster to check bags and get through security to flight gates.

“I’m excited to see this historic investment coming to RDU thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law – a transformative package that I helped pass during my first term,” said Congresswoman Ross. “As one of the major economic engines in our region, the Research Triangle needs a modern, efficient airport to ensure North Carolinians can connect to opportunities across the country and the world. The federal funding we are announcing today will ensure that RDU’s infrastructure can support our state’s continuing growth while also improving the experience for travelers at the airport and creating good-paying jobs. I will always fight to deliver federal support for projects like this one that bolster our state’s economy and bring North Carolina’s infrastructure into the 21st century.”

“As a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, I am very pleased to see Raleigh-Durham International Airport among the projects receiving federal funding to make necessary expansions and essential upgrades to aging airport infrastructure,” said Congresswoman Foushee. “Thanks to the Biden Administration, the FAA, and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, these funds will help modernize our airports, improve safety and access, and will make travel more efficient for families across our community.”

“$12 million in federal funding is on its way to Raleigh-Durham International Airport, all thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law," said Congressman Nickel. “The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law continues to make once-in-a-generation investments in North Carolina's transportation infrastructure while also supporting good-paying jobs and growing the local economy. I’ll continue to work with my colleagues and fellow members of the North Carolina delegation to ensure our state gets its fair share of funding and benefits from this transformational legislation.”
