North Carolina lawmakers have scheduled their next public-education commission meeting, and a statewide certification program is moving from a state agency to a private college after its funding was removed from the budget.
Public-education commission to meet Sept. 28
The General Assembly’s Blue Ribbon Commission on Public Education is scheduled to meet at 10 a.m. Sept. 28 at the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation, according to the legislative calendar. The House and Senate are each scheduled to convene at noon the same day. The calendar also lists commission meetings for Oct. 19, Nov. 19 and Dec. 14, with additional meetings in January and February 2027. Environmental education program moves after state funding ends
North Carolina’s Environmental Education Certification Program will move from the Department of Environmental Quality to Catawba College’s Center for the Environment on Oct. 1 after the new state budget removed its funding. DEQ said the transition will preserve the program, its staff, listserv and calendar without expected delays or interruptions. The statewide program has awarded certificates to more than 1,600 people during roughly 30 years of operation.
