As a native North Carolinian, I know too well the devastating impacts flooding and natural disasters can have on our coastal communities. I also know the positive impact visionary projects can have in helping protect these communities. The Reinvesting in Shoreline Economies and Ecosystems (RISEE) Act helps protect coastal communities by creating a new stream of funding for coastal infrastructure and flood resiliency projects.
If passed, the RISEE Act would help incentivize new clean energy projects. Wind energy has become one of America’s most inexpensive, low-risk options. Wind energy is a huge source of job creation in our state and beyond. The RISEE legislation establishes a revenue-sharing model for offshore wind energy production. It directs nearly 40% of revenues from offshore wind energy back to adjacent states and supports coastal restoration, hurricane protection, and conservation management plans. Passing this bipartisan legislation is common sense for our state.
As a North Carolinian who knows the impact our coastal communities have within this state and beyond, I hope our leaders in Washington will consider supporting the RISEE Act. It will provide greater incentive for future projects in the beautiful place we call home.
