Chairman Price Statement on President-elect Biden Nomination of Pete Buttigieg as DOT Secretary
Raleigh -- Congressman David Price (NC-04), Chairman of the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee, released a statement on President-elect Joe Biden’s decision to nominate former South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg for Secretary of the Department of Transportation (DOT):
"I applaud President-elect Biden’s selection of Mayor Pete Buttigieg to lead the Department of Transportation,” said Chairman Price. As Mayor, Pete Buttigieg has firsthand experience implementing infrastructure projects in his home city of South Bend, Indiana. As a presidential candidate, he put forward bold and detailed plans to tackle our nation’s transportation and infrastructure challenges. And his appointment as the first openly LGBTQ cabinet secretary is both groundbreaking and inspiring. I am confident that as DOT Secretary he will achieve great progress for urban and rural communities across the United States, including communities adversely affected by ‘urban renewal’ and other federal transportation policies that resulted in displacement and economic hardship.
“As Chairman of the House ‘T-HUD' Appropriations Subcommittee, I look forward to working with Secretary Buttigieg to restore and revitalize our transportation infrastructure, especially as we confront the COVID-19 pandemic that has created budget shortfalls for states and localities, transit agencies, airports and seaports, passenger rail, and other vital modes of transportation. We must also boost investment for multi-modal transportation solutions, strengthen and modernize critical infrastructure so that it is resilient to climate change, and accelerate the development and deployment of new technologies to secure a safer and environmentally sustainable future.”
