NC Senate Nominee Scott Lassiter Calls for Mark Robinson to Suspend Campaign
Cary, NC – Scott Lassiter, Republican nominee for the North Carolina Senate in southern Wake County, has issued a public call to action in response to the most recent scandal involving Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson’s gubernatorial campaign. Lassiter, a career educator, current county-wide elected official, and Republican North Carolina Senate nominee for southern Wake County expressed his deep concerns about the allegations against Robinson.
“As a proud Republican, I stand for hard work, fiscal responsibility, and liberty. But no one should feel obligated to support a candidate solely due to party affiliation,” Lassiter stated, “Wrong is still wrong, and if the recent allegations against Robinson are true, combined with his previous public rhetoric, I believe it’s time for him to step aside. North Carolinians deserve a viable choice in this election.”
Lassiter emphasized that his values, which led him to join the Republican Party at age 17, diverge sharply from some of Robinson’s radical social and cultural positions, particularly regarding women’s issues, violence, and traditionally marginalized groups. Notably, Lassiter campaigned actively for Treasurer Dale Folwell in the Republican primary, and Robinson supported and endorsed Lassiter’s opponent.
“Politics should not be defined by blind loyalty to one side or the other. Democracy is built on discernment and informed decision-making and my integrity isn’t for sale.” Lassiter added, “Unfortunately, much of politics today is defined by disdain for the ‘other side.’ We don’t all have to agree, and in fact, that’s a fundamental virtue of democracy. However, we do need leaders with discernment.”
Lassiter urges voters to take a careful look at all candidates and to vote their conscience not only in the Governor’s race but in each contest on the ballot.
“I’m running to represent the people of southern Wake County and our shared values. It is now clear that nothing about Mark Robinson’s campaign reflects those values. For the good of the state and our party, I believe he should suspend his campaign to allow a quality candidate to finish this race.”
