John Hood: Post COVID scores tumble in NC
RALEIGH — In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, student performance fell across much of the United States. According to a new study of 2022 math and reading scores, however, North Carolina students suffered one of the country’s biggest tumbles.
North Carolina’s November County and Area Employment Figures Released
Unemployment rates (not seasonally adjusted) increased in 85 counties in November 2024, decreased in 12, and remained unchanged in three. Mitchell County had the highest unemployment rate at 8.9 percent while Orange and Currituck Counties each had the lowest at 2.9 percent. Fourteen of the state’s metro areas experienced rate increases and one decreased.
Justice Allison Riggs Asks Federal Judge to End Jefferson Griffin’s Bid to Throw Out North Carolinians’ Votes
On the first day of 2025, Justice Allison Riggs, the North Carolina State Board of Elections, and nonpartisan voting rights groups filed briefs in Jefferson Griffin v.
