United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Under Secretary for Rural Development Xochitl Torres Small today announced that USDA is investing $14 million to build and improve critical community facilities in North Carolina.
The state’s seasonally adjusted October unemployment rate was 4.1 percent, decreasing 0.2 of a percentage point from September’s revised rate. The national rate decreased 0.2 of a percentage point to 4.6 percent.
North Carolina’s new Regional Resilience Portfolio Program has launched a partnership that will advance resilience in eastern regions of the state impacted by Hurricane Florence. The program will be coordinated regionally with the support of councils of governments and the N.C. Rural Center.

Cohen, M.D. visited and toured the family vaccination site at St. Peter's Church & World Outreach Center in Forsyth County. The family vaccination site, in partnership with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS), offers vaccines for children ages 5 and up and adults.
Rep. G.K. Butterfield, N.C.-1, a Democrat, has officially announced he'll retire at the end of this term in Congress. Originally from Wilson, Butterfield, 74, has served in Congress since 2004. He has been in Congress for 18 years, representing a district that runs along North Carolina's northern border with Virginia. Butterfield won his first election to Congress by more than 71% and has handily won the seat in each election since, winning by margins well into the 70's.
U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Tom Vilsack today announced the Department is investing $446 thousand to improve equitable access to housing for people who live and work in rural areas.
President Joe Biden’s approval rating in North Carolina has taken a beating since the first quarter of the year, with just 39% of North Carolinians approving of him today, compared to 57% who disapprove. In March, Biden’s approval rating stood at 48% to 49% disapprove.
Governor Roy Cooper has appointed Brad Salmon to serve as District Court Judge to Judicial District 11, which serves Johnston, Harnett and Lee counties. He will fill the vacant seat created by the retirement of the Honorable Caron H. Stewart.
The COVID-19 pandemic brought many issues to the forefront, including the challenges the broader education system faces. School age kids from elementary through college navigated virtual learning, among other things. It demonstrated that education policy touches most every household in the United States and affects every sector of our state’s economy.
