Rep. Bell Appointed House Rules Chairman
Raleigh, N.C. - On Wednesday, January 8th, after being officially sworn in and seated for the 2025-26 legislative session, Rep. John Bell (R-Wayne) was appointed by Speaker Destin Hall (R-Caldwell) to serve as the Chairman of the Committee on Rules, Calendar, and Operations of the House.
Rep. Bell, now in his seventh term, held the position of House Majority Leader since 2016, becoming the state's longest-serving Majority Leader.
“It is truly an honor to take the oath of office and continue serving our state and the citizens of Wayne County,” said Chairman Bell. “I am also grateful for the opportunity to be appointed by Speaker Hall to serve as the House Rules Chairman. I look forward to using this new role to help ensure a successful legislative session that delivers meaningful results for the people of North Carolina.”
The House Rules Chairman is responsible for assigning legislation to committees, scheduling bills for floor action and directing the inner workings of House operations.
