Worker Safety Act heads to governor after bipartisan passage
House Bill 258, the Worker Safety Act of 2026, has been presented to Gov. Josh Stein after bipartisan passage in the House and Senate.

NCDOL Administrator Kisha Scotton Named Vice-Chair of National Wage & Hour Committee
RALEIGH, NC — The North Carolina Department of Labor is pleased to announce that Kisha Scotton, Administrator of the Wage & Hour Bureau in NCDOL, has been appointed Vice-Chair of the Wage & Hour Committee for the National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA). In her role at NCDOL, Ms. Scotton oversees enforcement of the state’s Wage & Hour Act and related compliance activities. Under her leadership, the Wage & Hour Bureau recovered more than $2.5 million for North Carolina workers last fiscal year.
Businesses Participate in “Safe + Sound” Week Statewide, Nationwide
A national campaign to promote workplace safety and health has been declared in North Carolina for the week of Aug. 9–15 by Gov. Roy Cooper and in conjunction with NCDOL, the state’s lead agency for workplace safety and health. The federal “Safe + Sound” campaign, promoted each August, encourages businesses to develop a comprehensive safety and health program to ultimately eliminate hazards and prevent injuries, illnesses and fatalities in the workplace.
