Senator Berger Announces Chief of Staff Hire

Raleigh, N.C. – Senate Leader Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) announced that Kolt Ulm will become his new chief of staff.

Ulm currently serves as Sen. Berger’s Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Budget. He replaces the outgoing chief of staff, Brian Fork, who is leaving to join the Carolina Hurricanes organization.

Ulm joined Sen. Berger’s staff in 2013 and has held constituent liaison, policy advisor, and senior staff positions in the President Pro Tempore’s Office.

“Kolt knows the ins and outs of the General Assembly and the Senate like nobody else,” Sen. Berger said. “During his time working in the legislature, he’s built strong relationships with nonpartisan staff, state agencies, and legislators. Kolt understands North Carolina and will play an integral role in working with Senate members on behalf of their constituents.”

Ulm graduated from Bethel University with a B.A. in political science, from UNC-Greensboro with an M.P.A., and from N.C. State University with an M.B.A.

He lives in Raleigh with his wife, Sara, and their two young sons.
