North Carolina House Democrats Showcase Fundraising Advantage

Raleigh, NC – The North Carolina House Democratic Caucus has reported a fundraising advantage after the second quarter fundraising reports became available. The numbers reflect the support and enthusiasm from grassroots donors across the state, placing Democrats in a strong position as we get closer to the November elections.

According to recent reports filed with and made public by the State Board of Elections, Democratic candidates in priority House districts have outpaced their Republican opponents in both fundraising and cash on hand. This strong financial positioning underscores the view many North Carolinians have, which is to elect leaders who prioritize public education, healthcare, and economic opportunity for all, and more importantly, to restore the ability to have checks and balances on a Super Majority Republican legislature.

Among the top-performing candidates:

  • Nicole Sidman (HD-105) has outraised incumbent Tricia Cotham, raising four times more over the same period. Full article by the News and Observer.

  • Dante Pittman (HD-24) raised $183,093 compared to his incumbent opponent Ken Fontenot's $28,061. Fontenot’s report is also full of questionable expenses charged to the campaign.

  • Evonne Hopkins (HD-35) continues to gain financial support, raising $144,000 this quarter compared to just $35,000 from her opponent for an open seat.

  • Beth Helfrich (HD-98) has outpaced her Republican opponent by more than $125,000 ($179k to $52k) this quarter while maintaining a significant cash on hand advantage.

  • Lindsey Prather (HD-115) maintains a commanding cash on hand advantage, nearing $200,000 more than her opponent.

“Our fundraising success is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our candidates and supporters,” said Caleb Hudzik, NC House Democratic Caucus finance director. “With the majority of our candidates in competitive races having raised substantial funds, we feel good about where we are this summer. With the next reporting period ending only a couple of weeks before the election, it is critical that we dig even deeper and demonstrate the type of program we are by winning these races and restoring the veto.”
