RALEIGH, N.C. -- The following are highlights from this week at the N.C. Department of Transportation.
Traffic Increasing Again Across the State
Even though the ‘Safer at Home’ order continues in North Carolina, more drivers across the state are going places.
The NCDOT continues to track traffic volumes in multiple cities, including Cary, Charlotte, Concord, Greensboro, Raleigh and Wilmington. While the amount of traffic is still below average overall, more people are driving this month compared to previous weeks.
Despite the number of drivers, it is still important to:
- Buckle up;
- Obey the posted speed limit; and
- Don't drive distracted.

Ocracoke Express Passenger Ferry Resumes Service
The passenger ferry between Hatteras and Ocracoke is running again after the final approval of Senate Bill 750. The bill includes up to $1.1 million to lease and operate the Ocracoke Express passenger ferry through Sept. 10.
The service was a popular transportation option during its inaugural season last summer. Since the service started again July 3, hundreds of people have used the passenger ferry.
The Ocracoke Express makes three daily round trips between Hatteras and the Silver Lake Terminal in Ocracoke Village. For the full schedule, go to ncferry.org.
