Tillis Co-Sponsored Legislation To Expand Protections for Military Families Impacted by COVID-19 Heads to President’s Desk

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed bipartisan legislation co-sponsored by Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) to amend the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) and provide additional legal protections for members of the military impacted by the COVID-19 crisis. The bill introduced by Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee Chairman Jerry Moran (R-KS) and Ranking Member Jon Tester (D-MT) now heads to the president’s desk to be signed into law.

The Senators’ legislation expands SCRA protections to servicemembers who were previously issued orders to change duty stations but, due to the pandemic, received a stop movement order and may have a housing or car lease in two different locations.

“We must do everything we can to support our servicemembers and their families during this unprecedented time,” said Senator Tillis. “Passage of this legislation will provide the necessary protections they deserve, and I applaud the House’s passage of this commonsense legislation and look forward to the President signing it into law.”
