WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Last week, Senators Thom Tillis and Richard Burr joined with Representatives David Price (NC-04) and Ted Budd (NC-13) to lead a bipartisan coalition of Senators and House members to introduce a bill to rename the air traffic control tower at Piedmont Triad International Airport after the late-Sen. Kay Hagan.
They were joined by Sens. Richard Burr, Thom Tillis, Amy Klobuchar, and Mark Warner; and Reps. Mark Walker, David Rouzer, George Holding, Greg Murphy, Alma Adams, and G. K. Butterfield.
Rep. Price said: “I’m pleased to join a bipartisan, bicameral group of members from the North Carolina delegation to honor the late Senator Kay Hagan by dedicating the Piedmont Triad International Airport air traffic control tower in her name,” said Congressman David Price. “As I said shortly after her passing, Kay embodied the hope of the New South and worked to chart a positive, inclusive course for North Carolina, first in the state Senate and then in the U.S. Senate. I greatly valued her friendship and colleagueship. As a daughter of Greensboro and a champion for all North Carolinians, this legislation is a fitting tribute for her legacy of service.”
Rep. Budd said: “Sen. Hagan was a dedicated public servant to our state and it’s infrastructure and I believe renaming PTI Airport’s ATC tower in her honor is a worthy tribute.”
Sen. Richard Burr said: “Kay Hagan was essential in securing federal funding for a much-needed new air traffic control tower here at her home airport. Last year, Kay attended the tower’s groundbreaking, demonstrating how committed she was to seeing this project through even after leaving public office. I can think of no better way to honor her tireless service than by designating this tower in her name.”
