Multiple media outlets are reporting that Lara Trump, a New Hanover County native and daughter-in-law of President Donald Trump, is eyeing a potential run for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Senator Richard Burr. Burr has publicly stated that he does not plan to seek re-election in 2022.
According to Politico, other potential candidates include former Governor Pat McCrory, former Congressman and current White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, outgoing Lt. Governor Dan Forest and retiring Congressman Mark Walker.
