The last couple weeks have been trying in Washington. Internal debates on leadership within the House have been spirited but good. The real issues Americans care about are responsibly funding the federal government, addressing economic uncertainty, securing the border, and standing up against terror.
I believe myopic passion contributed to the ousting of former Speaker McCarthy. I supported Chairman Jim Jordan on the House floor to become our next Speaker, however he did not have enough votes to secure the position. This upcoming week, I am confident we will bring this bumpy chapter to a close and I look forward to hearing from all of the candidates on their vision for our country. I will support whoever I believe will lead effectively and fearlessly and pursue common sense solutions to the unsustainable growth of our national debt, the crisis at our southern border, the corruption of the Biden Administration.
As we continue to monitor the war in Israel, I remain resolute in my solidarity with the Israeli people, and against the bloodthirsty and anti-Semitic attacks on Jewish people. Hamas must pay for their crimes against innocent civilians. Israel has the absolute right to exist, and the United States must continue to stand with them in their righteous fight. Further, we must aggressively push back against terrorist sympathizers here at home, especially on college campuses.
Save the Date: Veterans History Project
I’m excited to announce I will be hosting a second Veterans History Project event in Currituck County! As the representative of over 76,000 veterans, it is my honor to help preserve their stories for history in the Library of Congress. We had such a successful event in Jacksonville that we will continue to be hosting these events in communities all throughout NC-03.
The Veterans History Project (VHP) - sponsored by the Library of Congress – is an initiative that collects, preserves and makes accessible the firsthand recollections of U.S. military veterans. The program highlights the incredible stories of sacrifice, bravery, and heroism displayed by veterans across the country.

Ways and Means Committee Visit to Eastern North Carolina
It was a pleasure to host a roundtable with my House Ways and Means colleagues to hear from local officials, physicians, and hospital representatives in Belhaven and ECU Beaufort to examine access to rural health care.
A few of the challenges rural areas must surmount include provider shortages, limited infrastructure and technology, and transportation issues. Despite this, roughly 60 million people, or one-in-five Americans, live in rural areas.
Ensuring folks have access to affordable, high-quality health care is one of my chief priorities as a physician and representative in Congress.
Ways and Means Bipartisan Roundtable on Surprise Billing
Ways and Means Committee held a bipartisan roundtable to address surprise medical billing which has impacted one-in-five adults in the U.S.
Believe it or not, the No Surprises Act, passed in 2021, was a bipartisan legislative effort to prevent unexpected medical bills from crushing individuals. Unfortunately, the Biden Administration has not implemented this bill as Congress intended. Lawmakers, both Republican and Democrat, are acting aggressively to correct this mistake.
I’m committed to ensuring patients are protected every step of the way.
GOP Doctors Caucus Hosts CDC Director Dr. Mandy Cohen
It was good to introduce CDC Director, Dr. Mandy Cohen to my colleagues in the GOP Doctors Caucus.
Public health must be based on objective and scientific evidence. Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, the CDC became a political arm of the Biden Administration and became a bureaucratic scourge. The American people have lost faith in what was once a respected institution. I stressed to Director Cohen the importance of an apolitical CDC that is worthy of the public’s trust. Dr. Anthony Fauci destroyed America’s trust in the institutions of medicine, and I challenged Dr. Cohen to restore it.
My colleagues and I stand ready to help her in the restoration of its reputation, should we be asked.
