Leader Reives Statement on Permitless Carry Vote in Senate

“Today’s vote in the North Carolina Senate moves North Carolina closer to a reality where nearly anyone can carry a concealed handgun without a permit and without any training. Allowing people as young as 18 to conceal a handgun with no permit or training is a recipe for disaster,” House Democratic Leader Robert Reives said. “This would make North Carolinians less safe and people understand that. Even a Republican pollster showed that this is unpopular, with more than 55% of North Carolinians opposed to permitless carry. A similar bill is advancing through the House right now. Either of these bills becoming law would make North Carolina a more dangerous place.”
