Murphy: H.R. 2, the Solution Biden Failed to Provide
Washington, D.C. – Rep. Greg Murphy, M.D. (NC-03) released a statement following his vote to pass H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act.
“President Biden’s willfully negligent handling of the southern border has resulted in an unprecedented humanitarian crisis that’s affecting the entire country,” said Rep. Murphy. “As deadly fentanyl, dangerous criminals, and human traffickers pour across the border, every town in America has turned into a border town. H.R. 2 is the solution Biden failed to provide. It will continue construction of the border wall, increase the number of Border Patrol agents, end catch and release, and protect unaccompanied minors.”
BACKGROUND:
Since President Biden took office, CBP has reported over 5 million illegal crossings, enough fentanyl to kill 3.1 billion people, and over 100 individuals on the FBI’s terror watch list. There are an estimated 150,000 illegal immigrants set to cross the border with the expiration of Title 42.
The Secure the Border Act will:
· Force the Biden Administration to restart construction of the border wall.
· Deploy technology to the southern and northern borders.
· Increase the number of Border Patrol agents and provide bonus pay.
· Require transparency regarding illegal crossings from the Department of Homeland Security.
· Strengthen current law to protect unaccompanied children from human trafficking.
· End catch and release.
· End abuse of executive immigration authority.
· Strengthen and streamline the asylum process.
