North Carolina House Democrats Complete Leadership Team

Whip election completes the 2024-25 leadership team for the House Caucus

The North Carolina House Democratic Caucus has elected four whips for the 2025-26 biennium, rounding out the leadership team. The following House Democrats were elected by their peers:

  • Rep. Amos Quick, III (HD-58) of Guilford County. Rep. Quick is a pastor serving his fifth term in the North Carolina House of Representatives.

  • Rep. Terry Brown, Jr. (HD-92) of Mecklenburg County. Rep. Brown is an attorney serving his third term in the North Carolina House of Representatives. 

  • Rep. Gloristine Brown (HD-8) of Pitt County. Rep. Brown is a former nurse and formerly served as the first Black mayor of Bethel, NC. She is serving her second term in the North Carolina House of Representatives. 

  • Rep. Ya Liu (HD-21) of Wake County. Rep. Liu is an attorney serving her second term in the North Carolina House of Representatives. Rep. Liu is the first Asian-American elected to serve in senior House Democratic Leadership. 

Other members of the House Democratic Leadership team include:

  • Deputy Democratic Leader Rep. Cynthia Ball (HD-49) of Wake County, a mediator serving her fifth term in the North Carolina House of Representatives.

  • Democratic Legislative Chair Rep. Brandon Lofton (HD-104) of Mecklenburg County, an attorney serving his fourth term in the North Carolina House of Representatives.

  • Democratic Joint Caucus Chair Rep. Mary Belk (HD-88) of Mecklenburg County, a retired business owner and community activist serving her fifth term in the North Carolina House of Representatives.

  • Democratic Conference Chair Vernetta Alston (HD-29) of Durham County, an attorney serving her third full term in the North Carolina House of Representatives 

  • Democratic Freshman Co-Chair Rep. Tracy Clark (HD-57) of Guilford County, a former marketing professional serving her first full term in the North Carolina House of Representatives.

  • Democratic Freshman Co-Chair Rep. Jordan Lopez (HD-112) of Mecklenburg County, a consultant serving his first term in the North Carolina House of Representatives.

House Democratic Leader Robert Reives released the following statement:

“I am excited to get to work with our full leadership team and House Democratic Caucus this Session,” House Democratic Leader Robert Reives said. “We have a great team in place and I look forward to accomplishing great things with our Democratic Caucus in the days and weeks ahead.”
