(Raleigh, N.C.) Treasurer Dale R. Folwell, CPA, is calling today for the State Health Plan (Plan) Board of Trustees to end coverage of popular GLP-1 drugs like Wegovy and Saxenda for the purpose of weight loss until the drugs’ manufacturer, Danish multinational Novo Nordisk, prices the drugs fairly.
The state Supreme Court has granted a discretionary review of North Carolina’s long-running school funding case to address whether the trial court lacked “subject matter jurisdiction” when it ordered the state to spend an additional $677 million on a sweeping school improvement plan.
Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. sent a letter alongside Doctors Caucus Co-Chair Rep. Brad Wenstrup, D.P.M., and Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure to probe physician workforce shortages and the misallocation of graduate medical education (GME) slots.
"Once again, this General Assembly has enacted maps that racially gerrymander North Carolinians in an effort to ensure a predetermined outcome: large majorities for Republicans in both chambers and an outsized share of the Congressional delegation in a purple state. Real leadership for North Carolina would be showing restraint, allowing for competitive elections and a contest of ideas instead of one-party rule."

RALEIGH: Governor Roy Cooper issued Executive Order No. 292 directing bold action to advance environmental justice. This new Executive Order builds upon Governor Cooper’s Executive Order 246, issued in January of 2022 by reestablishing the Secretary of Environmental Quality’s Environmental Justice and Equity Advisory Board as the Governor’s Environmental Justice Advisory Council.
Raleigh, N.C. - The state’s seasonally adjusted September 2023 unemployment rate was 3.4 percent, an increase of 0.1 of a percentage point from August’s revised rate. The national rate remained unchanged at 3.8 percent.

In the latest Civitas Poll, 49% of North Carolinians likely to vote in the Republican primary say they’d pick Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson to be the GOP nominee for governor in 2024. Of the remaining voters, 41% are undecided and the rest support other candidates such as State Treasurer Dale Folwell or former congressman Mark Walker.
