Deborah Ross Slams NC Republicans’ Gerrymandered Maps, Announces Reelection Campaign to Represent Wake County
Raleigh, N.C. — Congresswoman Deborah Ross released the following statement on North Carolina Republicans’ extreme, gerrymandered maps. If any of these maps are enacted, she plans to run to continue representing Wake County – the community she has represented for two terms in Congress and served for more than a decade in the General Assembly.
“Today, Republicans in the General Assembly have proven that their primary allegiance is to their own political self-interest — not to our democracy and certainly not to upholding the will of North Carolina voters,” said Ross. “North Carolina is a purple state, and we finally have a Congressional delegation that reflects the rich ideological and racial diversity of our great state. Rather than ensuring our constituents can be heard, Republicans are attempting to silence voters' voices in pursuit of their partisan goals. These maps are an egregious abuse of power and a threat to the strength and vitality of our democracy.
“While this redistricting process represents a monumental step backward, I intend to keep fighting for the community I have represented for more than a decade – first in the General Assembly and now in Congress. That’s why I am running to continue representing Wake County in Congress. We have accomplished so much together, but there is still so much left to do. I intend to win this seat again and continue delivering real results for the people of Wake County and North Carolina.”
