The stunning ouster of U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on Tuesday — the first time a speaker has been removed in Congress’ 234-year history — created a leadership vacuum in the chamber and left multiple questions about how legislative business would proceed.

Congresswoman Valerie Foushee (NC-04), released the following statement regarding the Motion to Vacate vote to oust Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
Unemployment rates (not seasonally adjusted) increased in 41 of North Carolina’s counties in August 2023, decreased in 28, and remained unchanged in 31. Scotland County had the highest unemployment rate at 6.2 percent while Swain County had the lowest at 2.7 percent.

North Carolina’s Medicaid program will expand on December 1 to offer fully subsidized health plans to virtually every legal resident whose household income is at or below 138% of the federal poverty line.
Under the state's new abortion law, doctors are not allowed to prescribe abortion pills before a patient's embryo is visible on an ultrasound, which happens at about five or six weeks.
