Murphy Statement on Vote to Vacate the Office of the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. issued the following statement in response to the vote to vacate the office of the Speaker of the House:

"In the past eight months, House Republicans have been a critical check on President Biden and Democrats’ liberal, out-of-touch agenda," said Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. "We have passed legislation to ambitiously reduce our debt, protect economic freedom, secure our southern border, and destroy the woke agenda that has poisoned our culture and institutions."

"I came to Congress not to chase cameras or sow chaos, but to be a rigorously objective representative for Eastern North Carolina. While I respect every member’s right to vote their conscience, we cannot continue to sabotage our ability to deliver results and to weaken our standing – the House, under Republican control, remains the only bulwark against those who want to upend our founding and ideals."

"I want to use our majority to win on policy for the American people, expose the corruption of President Biden, and defeat the Left’s extreme vision for our nation. I could not be a part of this effort which risks our ability to save the country."

"I voted against the resolution declaring the office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives to be vacant."
