This upcoming week, Congress will be meeting in what is a critical time for the future of our nation and the world. House Republicans will decide who the 56th Speaker of the House will be and lead us in our efforts to reduce the unsustainable growth of our national debt, secure the border, hold the Biden Administration accountable, protect our freedoms, and destroy the woke agenda that is afflicting our country.
Additionally, the world watches as Israel fights to defend itself against an unprovoked attack by Hamas and Palestinian terrorists. Global stability has fallen, and our enemies are emboldened under the weak leadership of President Biden. Last month, the Biden Administration unfroze $6 billion of Iranian assets, and less than a month, Israel is at war with groups supported by the bloodthirsty regime. Israel has the absolute right to exist, and we stand with them in their righteous fight. The United States must not bend the knee to terrorists.

AI and the Future of Health Care
The integration of artificial intelligence into medicine will revolutionize health care as we know it. Our ability to diagnose and treat illnesses will be expanded beyond our imagination.
A few additional ways include improving drug discovery, predictive analysis, administration, and telemedicine. The efficiency and effectiveness of patient care are set to radically benefit from the burgeoning field of AI.
However, I firmly believe in the importance of the doctor-patient relationship. Humans are emotional beings, and it would be unwise to replace human-to-human interaction with a digital system. AI does not have a bedside manner and cannot provide optimism and resolve which is essential to successfully overcoming illness.
I’m grateful to the Connected Health Initiative and Duke AI Health for hosting me to speak on this important issue and how Congress can address the forthcoming challenges we will face.
VA Extender Legislation to be Signed into Law
My bill to extend authorities of the Department of Veterans Affairs to continue providing essential services passed Congress and will be signed into law by President Biden.
The bill extends three key authorities:
1) Allows physicians and nurses who work for contractors that do veterans’ compensation and pension exams to practice across state lines.
2) Allows the VA to restore veterans’ GI Bill benefits if they use them at an educational institution that closes or gets decertified from the GI Bill program.
3) Extends the Veterans Health Administration’s emergency preparedness measures to ensure care availability during crisis situations.
One in nine individuals in North Carolina’s 3rd Congressional District are veterans. We appreciate their service and the sacrifices they made to protect our way of life. I’m proud to fight for our veterans and to improve the services provided by the VA.

Urging Natural Resources Committee to Protect North Topsail Beach
In 1982, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service made an egregious mistake that unfairly excluded homeowners from qualifying for various forms of federal assistance in North Topsail Beach.
The Natural Resources Subcommittee on Water, Wildlife, and Fisheries held a hearing on my bill to correct the designation of large portions of North Topsail Beach as part of the Coastal Barrier Resource system and Alderman Tom Leonard testified in support.
Reversing this policy was an effort spearheaded by my predecessor for over a decade before I came to Congress and one that has been a priority of mine since.
I joined the committee to support Alderman Leonard and spoke in favor of this legislation. I look forward to continuing my advocacy to get this passed through Congress.
