New reporting from The Assembly and the News & Observer reinforce the need for the General Assembly to take oversight and accountability of state dollars more seriously. The General Assembly has funneled $55 million, collectively, to the U.S. Performance Center and the North Carolina Sports Legacy Foundation in order to “lure national governing bodies to Charlotte.”
Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson is calling for broad reforms to the K-12 education system in North Carolina. Robinson's comments came during a standing committee meeting on Monday, Feb. 21, that touched on themes of accountability, discipline, and restoring common sense.
“There’s a couple of reasons as to why I think we should call them government schools,” said DeAngelis during the closing session of Classical Liberals in the Carolinas’ recent annual conference. “One is that it provides clarity between charter schools and traditional public schools. Charter schools are defined as public schools, but they’re not government-run.”
