The Woodshed: UNC professor claims only Democrats protect black voters' rights

A liberal UNC-Chapel Hill professor testified Tuesday in Wake County Superior Court that GOP-crafted election maps represent a conservative white backlash against rising black political power. Professor James Leloudis appeared on behalf of Democratic Party-aligned plaintiffs working to overturn voting maps passed by the Republican-led General Assembly, arguing that the maps are unfair to black North Carolinians.

I’m living the American Dream. I grew up in the beautiful state of North Carolina, graduated debt-free from Meredith College, worked in my community to help my neighbors, and now have a career I enjoy that allows me to serve others. I value the freedoms we have that allow us to succeed when we contribute to society. My dream could turn into a nightmare if our representatives in Congress do not act to protect immigrants who came to the U.S. as children, like me.

Nikole Hannah-Jones wasn’t cancelled

In a few weeks, New York Times reporter Nikole Hannah-Jones will join the faculty of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Hussman School of Journalism and Media, as the Knight Chair in Race and Investigative Journalism. She accepted a five-year contract as a professor of the practice, with the possibility of receiving tenure at a later date.
