Public Safety Secretary Erik A. Hooks today announced his plans to retire from state service on August 1. Governor Roy Cooper appointed Hooks on January 5, 2017, to serve as Secretary of the Department of Public Safety and as the State Homeland Security Advisor.
Department of Public Safety Secretary Erik A. Hooks has named Caroline Valand as Deputy Secretary for Partnership Engagement. She will have oversight of the Governor’s Crime Commission; Private Protective Services Board and Alarm Systems Licensing Board; and Victim Services, which staffs the Crime Victims Compensation Commission.
Today, Governor Roy Cooper appointed N.C. Department of Public Safety’s Chief Deputy Secretary and Senior Policy Advisor Pamela Brewington Cashwell to lead the Department of Administration as Secretary. She will serve in the post formerly held by Machelle Sanders, who now leads the N.C. Department of Commerce as Secretary.
