ASHE County Commissioner arrested, charged with indecent liberties with a child

RALEIGH – On Thursday, August 27, 2020, Special Agents with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation’s (SBI) Northwestern District arrested Ashe County Commissioner Larry Dix, 69, of Grassy Creek. 

The SBI began its investigation on July 3, 2020, at the request of District Attorney Tom Horner.  After consulting with the DA, Dix was charged with four counts of indecent liberties with a minor and arrested this afternoon at approximately 4:25 pm.  The alleged offenses happened between July 1, 2019, and June 19, 2020. 

After going before a magistrate, Dix was issued a $200,000 secured bond.  As of this writing, he is currently being held at the Alleghany County Jail.  This investigation is ongoing.  No additional information is available.
